Swasraya Bharath-2007
Kochi, Oct. 10, 2007
Swadeshi Science Movement
(Kerala chapter of Vijnana Bharati) has organized "Swasraya Bharath" to
celebrate the National Self Reliance Week, which was inaugurated by
Dr.R.Chidambaram, The Visionary of Indian Nuclear Programme & Principal
Scientific Adviser to Government of India.
He has observed that India needs the support
of other nations only for a short time while they will need India
for a long time. He stressed the requirement for the need of nuclear power
to bolster the transformation from a developing to a self-reliant developed
country. " India is no longer a developing country, we are a
nuclear-developed nation". He called the students community to have a
serious focus on science careers.
Speaking at the occasion, Dr. Chidambaram
said that "there is no doubt that India will be a developed country. If you
want to sustain the growth for a long period, you have to do it through
science and technology. You must be not only economically developed, you
must also be scientifically advanced, you must also be militarily strong.
National development and national security are two sides of the same coin.
Development without security is vulnerable; security without development is
meaningless. What India is trying to do during the last decade and more is
to ensure that we provide the citizens of the country both development and
security." He suggested that, "we must look forward and our future using the
modern tools of science and technology. But at the same time you must take
pride in our heritage in science. You must remember that in our
self-consciousness, have pride in that".
He appreciated Swadeshi
Science Movement and its activities like Swasraya Bharath, he said these
efforts are very essential to focus on National Self Reliance and a
sustainable growth of our nation. The week long celebrations has attracted
lakhs of students, youth and general public and the pavilions put by R&D
organizations were highly informative and educative.
