The
18th Swadeshi Science Congress is being organized
jointly by Swadeshi Science Movement and Rajiv Gandhi Centre
for Biotechnology, in association with various R&D
organisations from 5 to 7 November 2008 at
Thiruvananthapuram. In order to encourage our scientists and
research scholars to propagate and publish their scientific
findings, Swadeshi Science Movement has been organizing the
Swadeshi Science Congress since 1991 every year, coinciding
with the birthday of Sir. C. V. Raman on 7 November.
Swadeshi Science Congress is a platform to bring scientists,
technocrats, research scholars professional students and
enthusiastic science communicators and common public
together to present, discuss and disseminate the scientific
knowledge. It is a congregation for exchanging their views,
ideas and to work for the development of society through the
intervention of Science, Engineering and Technology. The
Congress encourages presentations in regional languages as
well as to explore the traditional knowledges and indigenous
technologies.
The focal theme of the Science Congress is Biotechnology
and Society. Biotechnology, the emerging field in the
present context is going to be discussed in detail and its
wide applications will be an eye opening for the masses.
Biotechnology, broadly defined as "using organisms or their
products for commercial purposes” have got a wide range of
practical uses that can have dramatic effects on our lives.
Apart from the traditional uses, recent developments like
genetic engineering have given biotechnology new dimensions
and increased its significance. It will surely influence the
world economy and the whole society making desirable or
undesirable impacts. Hence it is of utmost significance to
have detailed discussions in relevant platforms. Apart from
this, papers from different areas of pure and applied
sciences will be presented during the three day congress. |
